Noun: Special uses of the accusative
Special uses of the accusative is a noun topic in Koine (biblical) Greek. This page gathers its forms, paradigms, and function, drawn from the lessons of Reading Greek Deeply.
SyntaxSpecial uses of the accusative
Accusative case is often associated with an entity affected by the eventuality (see 1.3.3.3), but it is the verb that determines whether the noun marked by accusative case refers to something affected or not. Sometimes, the verb does not involve any change, and the accusative is used in a temporal phrase to indicate the extent of time in which an eventuality occurs:
- (645) Duration of an eventuality
- παρ’ αὐτῷ ἔμειναν τὴν ἡμέραν ἐκείνην (John 1:39)
- They stayed with him that day
